Cheltenham picked up a vital point from their trip to Somerset but manager John Ward, still looking towards the bottom of the table, said he would be much happier if he knew he could count on three points from Monday's game against Scunthorpe.

There was gloom in the Yeovil camp. For most of the season they have been in promotion contention, at least for a play-off place if not automatically, but this was their third draw in succession and they have slipped to 9th.

"I will not be cutting my wrist just yet but it was a very poor performance," said manager Gary Johnson. "We have not had many games here like that this season. Even when we have lost we have usually played quite well but I like to be entertained and today I wasn't." Johnson was forced to make changes early on, bringing on Stephen Reed and Hugo Rodrigues before half time in place of Adam Lockwood and Colin Pluck at the back.

But it was in midfield where Yeovil lost out. Gavin Williams was far from his best and Cheltenham did a great job stifling playmakers Lee Johnson and Darren Way.

Fortunately for Yeovil, Cheltenham's attack was not as effective as their midfield approach work and the best scoring chances fell to 19-year-old Dave Bird and his midfield partner Martin Devaney. They both created chances and fired in shots, most of which were dealt with by Stephen Collis the home keeper.

It was Martin Devaney who fired in the best shot of the first half when Bird put him clear. In the second period it was Bird who came closest to breaking the deadlock with a rasping 25 yard drive that forced Collis into a diving save at his right hand post.

It was 87 minutes before Yeovil forced their one and only corner and that summed up the afternoon for Johnson's off key side.
