Leyton Orient secured their first win of the season at Cheltenham and made it four points from two away games this week.

The O's raced into a 2-0 lead and missed a hatful of other chances although they were made to hang on by a late rally from the Robins, who suffered their second home defeat in five days.

Despite a bright start by the home team it was the visitors who took control of the game for most of the first half.

They should have gone ahead in the 28th minute when some impressive pace and skill from Jabo Ibehre gave Michael Simpson a chance from close range but the former Wycombe Wanderers player stabbed his shot wide.

Orient grew in confidence as the half progressed with nippy forwards Ibehre and Lee Steele pulling the Cheltenham defence all over the place.

The East Londoners took a deserved lead in the 35th minute when Cheltenham lost possession in midfield and Andy Scott lofted a ball towards the box from wide on the left. Steele's first touch took him clear of the defence and he beat goalkeeper Shane Higgs from 15 yards.

Ibehre then missed the target with two more excellent chances as Orient passed up the opportunity to take a wider lead into the break.

David Hunt flashed a shot inches wide at the start of the second half but the lead was doubled in the 68th minute by the lively Ibehre.

Steele made it with some clever movement and a measured pass for Ibehre to round the goalkeeper and score into an empty net.

Cheltenham woke from their slumbers following that goal and pulled one back 15 minutes from time when Martin Devaney capitalised on some good work by substitute Kayode Odejayi, the winger shooting under goalkeeper Glenn Morris from close range.

Morris was forced to make an excellent save from Devaney and Cheltenham striker Steve Guinan had a late header cleared off the line as Cheltenham threatened to deny their visitors a deserved win.
