Cheltenham 0-2 Bristol Rovers- Match Report

McGhee makes winning start

Goals from Chris Zebroski and Eliot Richards gave Bristol Rovers a 2-0 victory at Cheltenham and got Mark McGhee's reign as manager off to the perfect start.

Rovers took a firm grip on the game with a two-goal burst in four minutes either side of the hour mark.

Zebroski opened the scoring when he latched onto a perfectly-weighted through ball from recently-arrived substitute Scott McGleish before firing an angled shot past Scott Brown.

The rangy striker also played a key role in the Pirates' second goal. When Brown was unable to hold his powerful 25-yard drive and home skipper Alan Bennett hesitated, Richards nipped in to tap home.

A poor opening 45 minutes produced little goalmouth action. Indeed, it took until the 44th minute for the game to burst into life, when Zebroski placed a firm header against the outside of a post following Gary Sawyer's left-wing cross.

Cheltenham substitutes Jeff Goulding and debutant Jermaine McGlashan both forced saves from Michael Poke before McGleish missed a golden chance to seal the points when he headed narrowly wide.
