Blackpool 3 Cheltenham 1

Cheltenham's week of woe continued at the seaside with a third defeat in seven days.

The miserable run has seen the West Countrymen concede 14 goals in those matches and manager Graham Allner's nightmare was made all the more worse when midfielder Steve Jones was stretchered off just before half time a suspected broken leg. Jones was returning to action after a 17-month injury layoff.

Allner must have thought his crisis week had ended when his side went ahead in the 30th minute. Striker Damien Spencer latched onto a harmless looking throw in, shielded the ball well and then drove a superb half volley past Phil Barnes in the 30th minute.

His joy was short lived when with four minutes to go before the break Spencer found himself defending a Richie Wellens corner and under no pressure contrived to head into his own goal.

Blackpool dominated the second half keeping the ball on the deck and spreading it wide where Paul Dalglish and John Hills caused all sorts of problems.

In the 64th minute a lovely run by Wellens ended in an exchange of passes with Scott Taylor before Wellens chipped Town keeper Steve Book from eight yards.

With seven minutes to go Blackpool substitute Richard Walker finished clinically after a superb through ball from Keith Southern.

After the game Blackpool manger Steve McMahon said: "We showed our resilience coming back from behind when we changed our tactics things started to go for us."

Allner said: "This has been a bad week but I thought we played with some spirit today and Blackpool knew they had been in a fight."
