Ward misses out on two in preparation for Saturday's opener

The Gloucestershire Echo has today reported that John Ward's efforts to bolster the squad before the beginning of the season have suffered a serious set-back. The manager had been looking at a couple of players, but now neither will be able to join up with the squad.

Ward told the Echo: "I've missed out on two loan signings and it's a pity. I'm not going to be able to do any thing before the weekend now, but that's life. One lad has injured himself in training, which is a shame for him, and another is going to be involved in first team action on Saturday, so he is not available for loan. It's very difficult to find players at this time of year because other clubs are in the same boat as us and have picked up knocks during the pre-season."

The news will come as a disappointment to the section of the Cheltenham support who believe that the step up to the next level will require new faces if it's to be a success.
