The Goat won't become a Robin

John Ward has dismissed as 'ridiculous' the roumours linking Burmudan striker Shaun Goater with a move to the robins. The 35-year-old has a year left on his contract with Reading but is unlikely to play for them again due to a £50,000 appearence bonus agreed with Manchester City upon him reaching 50 games with the Royals.

Speculation has also linked the player with Swansea in what is, to be honest, a far more likely scenario. Ward is reported as saying that there is no truth in the rumours and that the player will not be coming to Whaddon Road. The Goat is exactly the sort of player that would be useful to Cheltenham in the coming season, but scarcity of funds mean that even a loan move is hugely unlikely.
