Defender on trial with Robins

Caines, who has been released by Walsall, is a Birmingham born 6ft 1ins central defender, who came through the youth ranks at the Bescot Stadium. He joins other trialist Graham Ward in hoping to earn a contract with the Robins.
John Ward is looking at the young defender, but has stressed that he does not see him as a replacement for Michael Duff. He is hoping to sign a more experienced centre back for that role.
Cheltenham will find out tomorrow who their opponents will be in the Carling Cup 1st Round. They will face another team from the Southern Section. This section includes teams such as West Ham United, Ipswich Town, Coventry City, and the newly-named Milton Keynes Dons.
