Chairman outlines reasons for Devaney contract impasse

Chairman Paul Baker has explained to the Gloucestershire Echo that new league rules prevent the club from meeting Martin Devaney's wage demands.

This season League 2 clubs are prevented form spending more than 60% of their turnover on player's wages.  Baker claims that the club have already reached that level.

Renewed interest in Devaney's contractual situation came following his two goals in the win against Rochdale this weekend.  As his contract is due to end this summer and with the club suggesting they can stretch no further, it would seem that the ball is firmly in Devaney's court.
