The result will be a very misleading one for fans who did not attend the game, as the Robins dominated the first half, fielding their strongest line-up. They took the lead through Kayode Odejayi, hit the post, and forced some brilliant saves from Cardiff 'keeper Martyn Margetson, and went in 1-0 up at half time.

In the second half, the Robins fielded a weaker team, consisting mainly of reserves and younger players, and Cardiff's multi-million pound players took full advantage, as goals from Gabbidon, Earnshaw, Weston, Maxwell, and Campbell, gave the Division One side the win.

Cheltenham gave an encouraging performance in the first half, but the second half belonged to Cardiff. Robins boss Bobby Gould called the match 'a game of two halves'.
