All quiet on the Western Front

After a flurry of possible players on their way to Whaddon Road, the trail seems to have gone cold. Craig Armstrong is the only player to have joined the robins over the summer - a quick scan of the League 2 in's and out's will reveal that we are the only club to have brought in only one player - the vast majority of teams have secured the signature of at least five players.

The James Quinn saga has been rolling on, but it seems that he will hold out for a better deal from elsewhere, although I'm sure he would be a valuable addition to our squad and would become very popular with the robins faithful. John Ward's recent glowing appraisals of current squad members will do good things for the confidence, but many fans feel this is a shock-absorbing technique for when he has to reveal that no one else will be signing.

Ward's cause hasn't been helped by him telling the local press that just managing to convince James Quinn to come to the training ground is some sort of victory - just look at the variety of players other League 2 clubs have signed, and where they came from. Saturday will be the first opportunity to see if this squad can be competitive, but only time will tell.
